  • Professional Training in Music and Imagery
    For music therapists, educators, and other professionals. These two seminars are designed to give music therapists, educators, and other professionals practical skills in devising and implementing music/imagery techniques tailored for each participant's specific client population and professional setting.

Introduction (Level I) Personal Journey through Music and Imagery
This intensive 5-day (usually residential) seminar introduces theory and clinical applications of the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (BMGIM) and other music and imagery techniques. Participants gain intensive personal experience with BMGIM, along with hands-on experiential exercises, demonstrations, and clinical examples. In addition, simple music imagery techniques are introduced.
Fee: $575 plus room and board.

Advanced Training
Prerequisite: Completion of GIM Level I with an AMI approved training program.
Training in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery & Music (BMGIM)
For masters and post-masters level practitioners
Prerequisite: Completion of GIM Level I with an AMI approved training program.
A three-year training program consisting of seven seminars in the theory and practice of GIM, leading to eligibility for certification as a Fellow of the Association for Music and Imagery.
Seminars:
Part I
Connecting with the Inner World Through Music
An 8-day training in which participants learn to utilize music/imagery techniques. The focus is on stimulating and understand imagery responses to different genres of music and verbal processing of these experiences. Supervised hands-on experience is included both during and after the 8-day training.
Reflections and Connections
A 6-day training in which participants learn to apply music/imagery methods in a group setting. The focus is on understanding group dynamics and learning verbal processing in highly interactive "here and now" sessions. Supervised hands-on experience is included both during and after the 6-day training.
Part II - Guided Imagery and Music Internship
Prerequisite: Completion of above seminars or Level II GIM training with an AMI approved program.
Building on skills developed in the previous seminars, participants practice and refine GIM skills under supervision in private practice or clinical settings.

Guiding through Music - Music as Guide
A four-day seminar focused on further development of guiding skills, processing sessions, managing BMGIM series, music selection, advanced issues in the dynamics of music, and GIM music programs.
Advanced Clinical Applications
A four-day seminar on advanced guiding skills, guiding in special situations, managing a variety of clinical populations, transference and countertransference in GIM, assessment for indications and contraindications for GIM.
The Spiritual and Transpersonal in GIM
A four-day seminar on transpersonal psychology concepts and practices, the transpersonal in GIM, spiritual issues in GIM, the dynamics of music in spiritual and transpersonal spaces, the interface of spiritual and psychological issues in therapy, advanced guiding skills.
Myth and Archetype in GIM
A four-day seminar on developing awareness of myth and archetype in GIM, working with myth and archetype in therapy, Jungian approach to myth and archetype, the dynamics of music in mythic and archetypal spaces, advanced guiding skills.
Celebrating Our Learning in GIM
A four-day integrative seminar in which trainees present written and oral case studies, music program analyses, and final projects.
Additional Learning Activities
Practice sessions, supervision, personal GIM series, assigned readings, written reports, analyses of music, case studies, and final project.

Professional Training in Music and Imagery
